-responds with the number branded on the vessel. The Manifest
should be signed by Inspectors as proof that the Junk has been boarded; the armament is to be inspected and brand number
each arm checked; arns on board not branded to be seized. If
doubts are entertained as to the Certificate of Registry belong- -ing to a specified Junk, this must be checked by measurement of
the Junk.
On the arrival of a Junk from abroad without
■ Colonial Certificate of Registry the Junk Inspector is to
mummt demand, and the master must produce, proof of having
passed a Chinese Customs Station, failing such proof this
should be a case of Joint investigation with the Commissioner
of Customs »
Junks Trade Statistics.
Hitherto no special Register has been kept
of the movement of Junks. The figures published in the yearly
Trade Report are taken from the Licence counterfoil and the
"Special Permits" which are summarised by the clerk with a more or less degree of accuracy since the information given on these
documents is of a very vague nature.

I submit a pro-forma which will give all the necessary information required for the Trade Report and which
will save much clerical work throughout the year.
With regard to the Statistics of goods
carried by any Junk this should not prove difficult to obtain especially with the co-operation of the Commissioner of Customs
for Kowloon and District.
By Sub-Section 7 of Section 4 of Ordinance No. 16 of 1906 under (d) the Master of every Junk is called upon to furnish the description of the cargo on board. Therefore on arrival,a detailed Import Manifest should be handed in to the Harbour Office with the junk Certificate of Registry and
